Kelly Smiley is the owner and operator of Tahoe Flow Arts Studio. Kelly graduated from UNR with a degree in education. Naturally attracted to Tahoe, Smiley was a snowboard coach for 10 years. However, after a snowboard injury, yoga, hula hooping and aerial fabrics restored her physical body and developed her emotional body.
A natural born leader, Kelly is the lioness in a pride of relatable females. She fell in love with the healing potential of flow arts and decided to lead the movement into our community. In 2011, she co-created Flow Artistry, one of the first performance groups on the north shore and in 2013 she created Tahoe Flow Artists a collaboration of entertainers bringing a fresh and explosive twist on expression through Aerial Arts, Dance, Hula-Hoop and Yoga.
It took two years of sleepless meditation and precise manifestation, and when she showed the universe she was ready, Tahoe Flow Arts Studio came into fruition in May of 2013. Since opening the studio Kelly has received her 200 hour Wanderlust Yoga Certification and 200 hours of Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Yoga is Medicine with the AvAhana School of Yoga. Kelly has been training in aerial fabric for over 8 years and has trained under Paper Doll Militia and the Aerial Lab. Kelly's love for self-expression is her inspiration for all her classes. Kelly teaches aerial fabrics, hula hoop and yoga classes at the studio and takes stage whenever her soul calls for it.
Meredith "Merekat" Calderas
Growing up in Los Angeles, CA, dance was Merekat's gateway for self-expression and release; her form of communication when she couldn't find the words as a young girl.
In middle school, she was so persistent to be a part of the high school dance team that her passion led the school to change their rules so middle schoolers could audition. In high school she joined cheer and play production. She was in 5 plays at Eagle Rock High School and was cheer captain her senior year.
Merekat continued with dance and cheer in college at SF State University majoring in TV & Radio Production and minoring in Dance. She performed in the New Moves Dance Showcase only 3 months after dislocating her knee cap. After her injury, which took place at a hip hop audition, she discovered the profound healing of yoga and has incorporated her practice into her performances and dance classes.
After moving to Tahoe, CA in 2013, she received her 200 hour yoga certification in Bhakti Vinyasa Flow with Shaelah Morris and teaches yoga, dance and aerial fabrics at Tahoe Flow Arts Studio. Over the past two years, Merekat has become the assistant to Kelly Smiley, the owner of Tahoe Flow Arts Studio, co-running the studio, teaching yoga, dance and aerial fabrics to youths and adults, running the website and social media, and coordinating and performing at events including Trails & Vistas, Made in Tahoe and Guitarfish Music Festival.
